Legerdemain Digest - June 1998 Victor and Diamond The IBM Convention is just around the corner. To get you into the mood for the biggest and best magic convention in the world, Ring 313 is proud to present the fabulous dove and stage magic of Victor and Diamond. Be sure to set aside June 25th at 7 p.m. at our regular meeting place, The Irvine Ranch Water District, for this special evening. This is a closed meeting and is open to Ring 313 members only. New members may join for $25.00. The international success of Victor and Diamond is attributed to their flawlessly orchestrated illusions and split second timing. They have shared the spotlight with many stars and are frequent performers at the prestigious Magic Castle in their native Los Angeles. If you have a desire to learn stage presentations from two of the top performers in the business, dont miss the June meeting of Ring 313. Victor and Diamond have graciously consented to make available the first part of the evening to contestants of the IBM Convention. If you are signed up to compete for either close-up or stage contest and would like one last chance to perform before an audience, please call Tom Clifford at 949-448-9533.

May Meeting Paul Green is a full time, professional magician. At the May meeting of Ring 313 he shared insights and routines that many of us could use to experience that same dream. Paul is one of the top corporate performers in the country with a client base that reads like a whos who of Fortune 500 companies. His specialties include strolling, trade show and hospitality suite magic of which he is a virtuoso performer. Paul Green held nothing back in his almost three hour lecture. Subtleties, tips and nuances that all of us could apply to our own performances were explained in keen detail. The magic that he taught was superb and designed for maximum impact for a lay audience. While technically demanding at times, Pauls magic draws more on the solid principles of magic rather than difficult moves. Although he could very easily hold his own against some of the top "finger flingers" in the world, he concentrates mainly on the entertainment value of his material. Entertaining it was! Many of us found ourselves enjoying his presentation without contemplating his method. Paul Green is an extraordinary gentleman of exceptional talent that respects his audience and his craft. To experience his joy and exuberance in performing magic is to examine with renewed interest our own love of this fabulous art. Thank you Paul Green for a most memorable and rewarding evening. The May meeting of Ring 313 was special for another reason. Our regular meeting place was unavailable and our local magic shop, "The House of Enchantment" volunteered to host the event. Jay Lesley and Jim Swoger were the perfect hosts and we hope that their "House of Enchantment" grows into a mainstay of the Southern California magic community for many years to come. World Alliance of Magicians The IBM, SAM, and Magic Castle have all joined forces to stop public exposure of magic and to enhance the magicians image in the eyes of the public. Walter Zaney Blaney has been elected to serve as its first president. The annoying money grubbers at the FOX network need to be stopped!! Financial contribution from every magic club, ring, assembly and circle is needed to support this vital cause. Please send comments and contributions to: World Alliances of Magicians, Inc. P.O. Box 33374 Granada Hills, CA 91394 313Lite Several of us would like to make 313Lite more performance driven. 313Lite will be devoted to increasing our magic skills. Logistics will be ironed out with all those interested. Contact Tom Clifford or Michael Van Horn for more details. PCAM Convention July 29 - August 1, 1998, Tacoma, Washington One of the oldest and most respected magic organizations, The Pacific Coast Association of Magicians, will be having its convention in Tacoma, Washington this year. The line up is headed by the fabulous Tommy Wonder! (He alone is worth the trip.) Our own John Fedko will take over as president of the PCAM for 1999. Good luck John! (Note: John will be bringing the PCAM Convention to Orange County in 1999. Watch for flyers and make your reservation early. There will be a few surprises!) Magicians Wanted The Magic Cellar in Corona Del Mar needs a motivated, self-starter with a solid magic background for part to full-time employment. If you have computer skills, people skills and salesmanship skills contact Prentis Taylor at (714) 675-1956. Dr. Bobs Magic Shop Our old friend Dr. Bob Dogget has a new web site at: http://members.aol.com/magicstor. Dr. Bob has magic for close-up, cabaret and stage. He will also custom make many stage apparatus including substitution trunks and tip over trunks. By the way, he also hand makes the finest Okito boxes on earth! David Neighbors Workshop If you have never seen the magic of David Neighbors you have missed what its like scraping your chin off the floor. David is one of the finest sleight-of-hand artists and creative minds in magic today. David will conduct a special workshop at the House of Enchantment in August. Watch for flyers to be distributed at the next meeting. Robert Rodriguez Tribute Jim Jones is having a tribute for Robert Rodriguez. If you are unfamiliar with Robert, he is the most generous and genuine gentleman in magic. You Ring 313 old-timers will remember him from our very first Christmas Banquet at The Phoenix Club. This tribute will take place on:
June 27, 1998 7:30 p.m. Masonic Hall 550 North San Gabriel Azusa, CA All funds will go to Robert. This is a thank you for all that he has done for the world of magic. You may contact Jim Jones at (626) 331-0212. This is a surprise! If you know Robert, please do not "spill the beans." |
